Nominate your block to be a part of our 4 Blocks in 4 Weeks!
Instead of randomly picking “dirty” blocks to clean throughout the city, we have blocks that want to make a difference but may need assistance in organizing, recruiting, and orchestrating a successful block cleaning. So, the main purpose of TBGB 4 Blocks in 4 Weeks program is to mobilize willing and eager Philadelphia citizens to do the cleaning and betterment of their homes and block.
What Is 4 Block 4 Weeks?
While contemplating ways on how The Block Gives Back could get local youth productively active all while helping an issue within their community TBGB was able to come up with the street cleaning event called 4 Blocks in 4 Weeks. This street cleaning series is aimed to cover 4 Philadelphia streets in need of a good cleaning with a large number of kids, teens, and young adults willing to come together to put in the work.
According to an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia's complaint line received over 50,000 calls/complaints about illegal dumping, and trash/debris removal from vacant lots in 2017. This article, written by Michael Borun, Julia Terruso, and Michele Tranquill, claims that the abundance of trash, litter, debris, and illegal dumping all have effects on physical/mental health, reduce property value, and attract crime. Living in Philadelphia, and seeing the daily eyesores across the city, in addition to the points highlighted by this article gave TBGB board members a solid foundation to create this program.

There are many ways to help make this event even better! You can sign up to volunteer with us, visit our AmazonSmile request list for supplies needed, or help us spread the word. The main way we call on our community other than volunteers is in the form of donations and there are several ways to support The Block. If you’d like to help us help someone else, please use the link below to donate - anything & everything helps.
For “4 Block 4 Weeks” we accept donations at The Block Shop at 6831 Torresdale Avenue. Specifically, we’re looking for the following items and take donations all year round:
Cleaning supplies (brooms, rakes, shovels, wheel barrels)
Trash Bags
Refreshments
Activity supplies
Gloves
Leaf Blower
First aid kits
Sanitizer wipes/hand solutions
