What Is Block 2 School?
The purpose of The Block Gives Back, Block 2 School event is to provide the much-needed essentials school-age kids need to have a successful school year. With Philadelphia being the poorest big city in the country and over 6,500 youth experiencing homelessness during the 2016-2017 school year we found it imperative that we do what we can as an organization and community leaders to relieve some weight from our students' shoulders.
GOALS
Every year The Block Gives Back aims to partner with community leaders, local businesses, and peer organizations to create a resourceful and celebratory back-to-school event. While preparing students with at least 1,000 custom book bags filled with school supplies The Block Gives Back creates a fun-filled day of activities, free resources, free haircuts, and positive reinforcement.
Block 2 School 2022 Recap
1,150 backpacks were filled and distributed at our 2022 Block 2 School event. The Block Gives Back collected ober 26,000 items to make this happen. We recognize this is only possible due to the support we receive from our partners and sponsors, and we are grateful! On the event day, we had 36 partners join us. Our team looks forward to another successfulBlock 2 School taking place this August 19th, 2023.
How You Can Help
There are many ways to help make this event even better! You can sign up to volunteer with us, partner with us, visit our AmazonSmile request list for supplies needed, or help us spread the word. The main way we call on our community other than volunteers is in the form of donations and there are several ways to support The Block. For “Block 2 School 2023” we’ll be accepting donations at The Block Shop at 6831 Torresdale Avenue. Specifically, we’re looking for the following items and take donations May through August:
